Local MP Alan Campbell today spoke at the launch of a book about Kinship Carers. The book is the result of a study by Kim Hall of Northumbria University and local Kinship Carers and has been supported by Grandparents Plus and Escape. The event marked the end of the year long project which captured the stories of living in Kinship Care families.
Alan Campbell MP said “Today was an important opportunity to raise awareness of kinship care. Around 220,000 children across the UK are being cared for by grandparents and other family members, and there are around 570 in North Tyneside alone. It is important that we understand the challenges that kinship carers face in order that they can get the support they need in what are often very difficult circumstances.”
